Mitos dos Índios Americanos

A maioria das crenças dos índios americanos se refere ao ‘Grande Espírito’, uma força desconhecida que está presente em tudo que tem vida. Também conhecido como ‘Criador’ e o ‘Grande Fazedor’, ele é responsável pela criação do Universo e tudo nele e é ajudado por outros espíritos, que estão ligados a várias partes da natureza.

Diferentes tribos de índios americanos possuem nomes diferentes para o ‘Grande Espírito’. O Algonquin se refere a ele como ‘Gitche Manitou’, o Cheyenne o chama de “Heammawihio’ e o Shawnee de ‘Finalizador’.

Os índios americanos acreditam que a terra e as pessoas são unidas pela interdependência mística. As histórias sobre os espíritos raramente foram escritas, mas foram passadas de geração para geração. Mito e folclores são usados para explicar o fenômeno natural de como as pessoas, os rios e as montanhas foram criadas.
