Murais na tumba de Sennedjem.

Os artesãos egípcios trabalhavam coletivamente em oficinas, conectadas aos templos ou palácios nas comunidades locais. Às vezes, eles até viviam juntos em vilas construídas especialmente para o trabalho de projetos importantes como a construção de uma tumba ou palácio. Muitas destas vilas de artesão foram escavadas, incluindo a Deir el-Medina perto de Tebas, lar daqueles que construíram o Vale dos Reis.
A estima destes artesãos era tão alta que os melhores tinham até suas próprias tumbas incrivelmente decoradas e elaboradas. Em Deir el-Medina, a qualidade das pinturas e móveis na tumba de Sennedjem é uma prova de suas capacidades.
