Ramsés II (1279-1213 AC)

Colosso sentado de Ramsés II em Abu-Simbel.

Ramsés assumiu o trono ainda novo, como co-regente com seu pai Seti I, e reinou até a sua morte aos 96 anos de idade. Seu longo reino praticamente define o próspero Novo Reino.

Assim que ele assumiu o trono, ele travou uma série de guerras com os sírios que deram estabilidade ao Egito nos anos a seguir. Ele construiu com grandeza, incluindo os dois templos de Abu Simbel, Hypostyle Hall em Karnak, seu fabuloso templo mortuário Ramesseum, um Colosso, uma tumba e adições ao Templo Luxor. Ele teve 200 esposas e concubinas, 96 filhos e 60 filhas. Quando ele finalmente morreu, ele teria vivido mais do que 13 herdeiros.
