Situada na porção oriental do continente asiático, a China é hoje um dos maiores países do mundo, e lar de um quinto da população mundial. A vastidão de suas terras compreende mais 50º de latitude e mais de 62º em longitude, em uma área total de mais de 9,6 milhões de quilômetros quadrados!

Seu território abrange desde a zona fria temperada até o cinturão equatorial. É recoberto por florestas, savanas, planícies e colinas, e também possui um dos desertos mais áridos do mundo, montanhas altíssimas e uma das melhores terras aráveis do mundo.
