Instituto J. Craig Venter

Antigo surfista californiano que virou visionário científico, J. Craig Venter foi testemunha de uma importante conquista da humanidade, liderada por ele. Fundador da empresa Celera Genomics, em maio de 1998, Venter dirigiu a companhia durante sua missão de três anos para mapear o genoma humano, realizado antes da data programada. Seu talento para os negócios aliado à sua paixão pela proliferação da pesquisa científica o ajudou a acelerar o projeto. Venter abandonou o cargo de chefe científico do Celera e deixou a empresa em janeiro de 2002.

Venter também fundou a Fundação Científica J. Craig Venter e o Instituto J. Craig Venter, que conduz pesquisa básica para o avanço da ciência do genoma. Ele já publicou mais de 200 artigos de pesquisa e recebeu numerosos títulos honorários e prêmios.
